The Bayside Academy Admirals are the real deal and they showed it Friday night, beating Opp 35-14.

After forcing a three and out, the Admirals went to work on offense and scored the night’s first points on a touchdown pass from Hunter Slater to Zack Dice from 6 yards out, giving them an early 7-0 advantage.

The Admirals went for the onside kick on the ensuing kickoff and recovered the football, but after Opp’s Onterrio Jones and Logan Rogers sacked Slater on 4th and 11, the Bobcats took over on downs.

The Bobcats were forced to punt after just three plays and this time, it was Jonathan Walton for the Admirals who found the end zone for a 4-yard TD for a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

The Bobcats broke through on the scoreboard just three plays later when freshman quarterback Ty Wight heaved a pass deep to Gage Wells who snagged the ball out of the air in front of an Admiral defender, then out-ran the rest of the defense for a 68-yard TD, trimming the lead in half.

The Bobcats had been trying to avoid kicking the ball to the Admirals speedy Greg Parker and he showed why when the he fielded the following kickoff on the 10-yard line, and knifed his way through the Bobcat defenders on his way to a 90-yard kickoff return TD to give his team a 21-7 lead in the second.

After the teams exchanged a pair of punts the Bobcats were able to cut the lead to seven at 21-14 just before halftime as Wight drove his way through the pile on a 1-yard TD run.

After kicking off to open the game the Admirals opened the second half with the lead and the ball, and needed just two plays before Joe Stassen to a handoff 78 yards out running several Bobcat players on his way to a TD.

After what started as a strong drive for the Bobcats, it ended when Walden picked off a pass from Wight which set up the Admirals final scoring drive of the night using 10 plus plays and nearly seven minutes off the clock when Slater hooked up with Trip Puckett for a 25-yard TD and after the XP was kicked the Admirals lead 35-14.

After the game Bobcats head football coach Jack Whigham said, “This was a very poor-coached football game and I take full responsibility. It was my fault and I didn’t have them prepared this week, but I can promise you this I will have them prepared for next week. I don’t know if we will win but we will be ready.”
