Sheriff: Death appears to be homicide

Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks said this evening that the death of the deceased individual, who was found on Old Dragstrip Road just off of Airport Road, is what appears to be a homicide.
Law enforcement officers are on scene and Meeks said the individual was found earlier this afternoon in a field by a man who lives near the scene.
Meeks said the man was out hunting wild hogs because they like to eat pears from a nearby tree when he came upon the dead individual.
“All we know right now is that we have one individual that is deceased and it appears to be — we’re not sure — but right at this point, it appears to be a homicide,” he said. “We don’t have an ID on him, yet.
“That’s kind of where we’re at,” he said.
Investigators from the sheriff’s office, the Andalusia Police Department and the state troopers were on scene and were canvassing an area just to the side of the intersection.
Additionally, a BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued earlier on a light blue Chevrolet vehicle.
Meeks said the BOLO was issued because somebody saw it in the area.
“It might not have anything to do with it,” Meeks said. “Somebody saw it in the area. We went ahead and BOLO’d for it. It might not have anything to do with this.”
