Wildcats know what to expect

Florala head football coach Justin Jones knows what Brantley will bring to the table this week in region action at Mathews Stadium.
Brantley beat Kinston 40-0 last week and in their two games this season, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents, 76-6.
The Wildcats (1-1, 0-1 in Class 1A, Region 2) suffered a shutout-loss to Geneva County last week, falling 47-0.
Jones said he wants to get FHS to a point where its fans would really want to come watch the Wildcats play the Bulldogs in a good game, noting the talent BHS has on its squad.
“If somebody told me 10 years from now, y’all remind me a lot of Brantley, I’d be happy with that,” he said. “They have good players. They have kids who play absolutely hard all of the time. There’s not anybody moping around, playing half-speed. Those kids play hard.”
That’s where we want to get, Jones said.
“We just want the 11 players out there to play hard all of the time,” he said. “When we get to that point, we’ll be ready to roll. I think we’re going to get to that point this year.”
To get ready for the Bulldogs this week though, Jones said the team’s specifically been focusing on itself and correcting mistakes.
“We want Florala to be better,” he said. “If Florala gets better, then the other stuff will take care of itself. We’re trying to correct our mistakes from last week, things we could’ve done better. Things we can eliminate like stupid penalties. You can eliminate those.”
Last week, Louisiana Monroe upset then No. 8 Arkansas in college football action.
In that game, Jones said he noticed that Louisiana Monroe went out and played the game.
He said essentially, that’s what he’d like the Wildcats to do this week.
“We just want to play our best game,” Jones said. “Central Hayneville wasn’t our best game. Of course, last week wasn’t our best week. Physically, Louisiana Monroe hit them. They out-hit Arkansas for four quarters.
“I tell our kids all the time, unless the Lord comes back, we’ll play again on Friday night,” he said. “To me, that’s what it’s all about, getting another opportunity to play. First of all, we get to play a good ball club. We’re excited about the opportunity to play hard.”
Kick off in Florala is at 7 p.m. on Friday.
