Tickets are on sale for the 21st annual Sav-A-Life banquet, organizers announced earlier this week.
The banquet will feature special music and an update on the ministry of Sav-A-Life, said Jan White, organizer.
“You don’t want to miss this inspiring evening of ministry,” she said.
Sav-A-Life is a non-profit ministry helping women in crisis pregnancies and teaching life choices such as abstinence to youth. It’s mission is to be a positive force in the community, reaching people with the love of Christ and bringing people to value the sanctity of human life.
Money raised from this year’s banquet will go to the ongoing expenses of the ministry, White said.
“Last year, we were able to upgrade our ultrasound machine,” she said. “And we’ve also opened an office in Florala one day a week to help serve the community there. All of our services are free of charge, and we depend heavily on large donations.”
Guest speaker will be Ken Bevel, who plays Nathan Hayes in the 2011 movie “Courageous” and Lt. Michael Simmons in the 2008 inspirational movie “Fireproof.”
Bevel serves on the ministry staff of Sherwood Baptist Church and is a retired Marine Captain from Jacksonville, Fla.
He served 20 years of active duty in the United State Marine Corps, including tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He retired to serve as associate pastor of assimilation and events at SBC, where he is responsible for coordinating major events, security, ushers and greeters and assisting new members and visitors.
White said Bevel has been interviewed on numerous television shows, including “Fox and Friends” and “Huckabee.”
He and wife Lauana have been married for the past 15 years and have two children, Kyra and Kaleb.
Tickets to the event are $15 and are available at Tabby D’s Christian Book & Gift Shop, Opp Chamber of Commerce, Larry’s Prescriptions, Florala Pharmacy and the First Baptist Church in Florala.
The banquet is set for Mon., Oct. 1, 6:30 p.m. at the Kiwanis Community Center.
