After earning a 35-0 region rivalry victory over Florala last Friday night, the Pleasant Home Eagles will turn around this week to face Samson at home.

“I think we match up really well with them,” PHS coach Robert Bradford sad. “It’s just going to depend on how we stop them.

“They run a triple option offense, which is normally a pretty explosive type of offense if they can run it right,” he said. “They have an old school coach who just came out of retirment — Coach (Don) Chesteen. He’s doing a real good job over there. We’re going to have to play assignment defense, and I think for us to have a chance we’re going to have put some points on the board.”

The Eagles (2-2, 1-2 in Class 1A, Region 2) took advantage of several Florala turnovers in the win last week. Samson recorded its only loss so far to Elba, falling 35-6.

Bradford said right now the coaching staff is preaching a certain sense of “urgency.”

“It seems like our kids sometimes want to wait until the second half to try and win the game instead of playing all four quarters,” he said. “We really started preaching a sense of urgency in what we’re trying to do. I think the kids did a good job. It was a critical win (against Florala), it was a region win for us to give us a region win going into the second half of the season. It was definitely something we needed.”

The main key for this week for Pleasant Home will be to keep the Samson offense off balance, Bradford said.

“We’ve been pretty good being a run and pass threat, being able to throw the ball down the fied and being able to run it,” he said. “Wev’e been great at it all season.”
