Andy’s King nominee in ASWA player poll

Andalusia’s Derrick King was nominated in this week’s Alabama Sports Writer’s Association player of the week poll.

Last Friday night, King rushed for 203 yards on 23 carries and scored four touchdowns to help lift the Bulldogs to a 42-13 region win over St. James in Montgomery.

King has scored six touchdowns this season.

The ASWA compiles a list of athletes each week that have had impressive showings on the field, and releases a list of the players of the week.

OFFENSE


Ameer Abdullah, Homewood: Had five touchdowns runs (1, 10, 6, 40, and 1) and 177 yards on 23 carries in a 36-35 overtime loss to Spain Park.

Corey Alexander, Phil Campbell: Was 24 of 40 for 395 yards and five TDs in a 48-43 loss to Lamar County.

Jacob Coker, St. Paul’s: Threw for touchdown passes of 40 and 22 yards and ran for a 50-yard touchdown in St. Paul’s 31-17 win over No. 3 Spanish Fort. �

Colby Davis, Elmore County: The receiver had eight receptions for 144 yards and two scores and rushed for a touchdown in a 35-27 win over Munford.

D.D. Dawsey, Cottonwood: Had 278 all-purpose yards on nine touches in a 53-3 win over Providence Christian. He rushed for 176 yards and two TDs, caught three passes for 103 yards and another score, added 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and a 45-yard interception return for a TD.

Cory Dennis, Charles Henderson: Rushed for 278 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries and threw for 75 yards on 4-of-7 with one touchdown (25) in a 34-20 win over Booker T. Washington.

Kendarius Fritts, Linden: Rushed for 265 yards and seven touchdowns on just 11 first-half carries against his former school in an 82-0 win over A.L. Johnson.

Marcus Harris, Auburn: Rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, and caught two touchdowns (73, 65), as the Tigers came back from 17 down to beat Enterprise, 57-44.

Cole Hayes, Winston County: Was 14 of 15 passing for 249 yards and four touchdowns against Carbon Hill.

Cameron Hill, Opelika: had 22 carries for 230 yards and all four of the Bulldogs’ touchdowns in a 27-21 win over Smiths Station.

Jaylen Henry, Escambia Academy: Had 386 all-purpose yards and six touchdowns in a 50-29 win over Marengo Academy.

DaMarcus James, Demopolis: Rushed for 320 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries before leaving the game midway through the third quarter in a 53-8 road win over Central-Tuscaloosa.

Jeremy Johnson, Carver-Montgomery:Was 17-for-26 for 240 yards and two TDs (29, 75) in a 35-10 win over ninth-ranked Stanhope Elmore.

Andre Kincey, Abbeville: Rushed for 226 yards on just 18 carries and four touchdowns, leading Abbeville to a 34-13 win over Geneva. Kincey also had two touchdowns called back on penalties.

Derrick King, Andalusia: Rushed for 203 yards on 23 carries and scored four touchdowns to help lift the Bulldogs to a 42-13 region win over St. James. King has scored six touchdowns this season.

Andreas Lewis, Coffeeville: Caught six passes for 108 yards and two TDs, had 79 yards on five carries, and threw an 11-yard TD toss in Coffeeville’s 22-19 loss to Fruitdale.

Jacob Mayfield, Westbrook Christian: Passed for four touchdowns and ran for another in the Class 2A No. 6 Warriors’ 35-7 win over No. 3 Ider. Mayfield completed 6-of-10 passes for 92 yards and rushed for another 118 yards on 19 carries.

Jourdan McGowan, Enterprise: Had six catches for 168 yards and three touchdowns (51, 51 and 23) in a 57-44 loss to Auburn.

Chris Nelson, Theodore: Threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns in Theodore’s 42-14 win over Bryant.

Ki-Shawn Powell, Reeltown: Had 17 carries for 230 yards and three scores in the Rebels’ 26-17 win over Woodland.

Dylan Rice, Phil Campbell: Caught seven passes for 202 yards and two TDs in 48-43 loss to Lamar County.

Kenterrion Riley, Greenville: Rushed for 222 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Paul Bryant, while passing for 90 yards and another touchdown.

DeMarcus Tremble, Springville: Led the Tigers to a 41-21 win over Oneonta by rushing for 273 yards on 29 carries and scoring five touchdowns (18, 10, 13, 37, 24). He also caught five passes for 71 yards.

Dalton Wadley, Etowah: Completed 20-of-30 passes for 343 yards and three touchdowns in the Blue Devils’ 27-17 win over Madison County.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

Akeem Bennett, Holtville: The two-way player scored two touchdowns, recorded nine tackles and scored the game-winning 2-point conversion in double overtime of a 45-44 win against Lincoln.

Jarred Causey, Corner: Made 16 tackles and two assists against Oak Grove.

Jonathan Ford, Westbrook Christian: Recovered two fumbles that led to touchdowns in the Warriors’ 35-7 win over No. 3 Ider.

Brett Guzay, Muscle Shoals: Intercepted three passes, including one he returned 76 yards for a score as Trojans defeated Columbia 34-7.

Eddrick Harris, R.A. Hubbard: Harris also had 14 tackles and three pass breakups in a 26-20 overtime win over Shoals Christian. He also rushed for two TDs, including the game winner.

Braysean Jones, Lee-Montgomery: Recovered a blocked field goal and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown in a 36-14 loss to Prattville.

Colby Maddox, Winterboro: Had two interceptions – including one that was run back 70 yards for a touchdown to help the Bulldogs defeat rival Talladega County Central 39-12.

Caleb Mayo, West End: Picked off three passes as the Patriots recorded a 40-0 win over Cold Springs.

Andy Pappanastos, Trinity: Recorded nine tackles and kicked field goals of 50 and 48 yards in a 27-14 loss to Washington County.

Tyler Smart, Spring Garden: Led the Panthers with 10 solo tackles, four assists and one tackle for lost yardage in Spring Garden’s 13-7 victory over Valley Head.

Tyler Smith, Samson: Intercepted three passes in a 25-16 win over Zion Chapel.
