Organizers of the 29th annual Andalusia Gun and Knife Show hope this weekend’s show surpasses last year’s turnout.
Mike Jones, a member of the South Alabama Gun Club, said last year’s crowd was the biggest the organization has seen.
“And we’re hoping this year is even better,” Jones said. “We’ve got approximately 170 tables sold, which is about the same as last year. We’ll have four custom knife makers, three or four knife dealers and more.”
Jones said the annual event will feature “its regular gun people” who will bring a variety of long and short guns.
“Also, anyone who has a gun you want a dealer to see, then bring it,” Jones said. “Just make sure you take the ammo out. Whatever the make or model, just check them at the door and see if you can get a dealer or interested individual to buy it.”
Doors to the Kiwanis Center will open Saturday at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. On Sunday, doors will open at 11 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person for those 12 and older.
Jones said the club uses the proceeds from the show to operate the club’s 20- acre shooting range.
“We do (the show) because we love the sport and the activity,” Jones said. “And this is our way of keeping our range growing and going.
“We actually started this years ago to give people in our area a local gun show,” he said. “Now, we’ve been pretty successful, and are recognized throughout the state. We don’t have any trouble getting dealers because they enjoy coming to Andalusia.”
