CARL DALE AMMONS

Carl Dale Ammons, 53, of Loango, born Dec. 30, 1956, in Weslaco, Texas, passed away suddenly from this life at 7:49 p.m., on Fri., Aug. 27, 2010, at the Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was a graduate of Red Level High School, Lurleen B. Wallace Jr. College and Auburn University at Montgomery, where he graduated with honors.

He was a lifelong Alabama fan who loved to float down the river with his son and his brothers. He worked for many years with State of Alabama as a chemist, but later moved from Montgomery to Loango to help his mother in any way possible and always made every possible effort to look out for every member of his family. And while science was his main love, science fiction, computers and old-time rock’n’roll were a close second.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby Gregory; his son, Elijah Thoreau Ammons of Millbrook; his sister, Peggy Ann Armstrong of Enterprise; and brothers, John Ervin Ammons of Slapout, Ala., Carmen Ray Ammons of Andalusia, Jimmy Lee Ammons, Charles James Ammons and Billy Joe Ammons, all of Loango; several aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carmen Ammons of Red Level in 2000; and a brother, Allen Wayne Ammons of Red Level, who died in a traffic accident in 1983.

To honor his love of science, Mr. Ammons elected to donate his body to science. As a result, he will be cremated, and a memorial service announced at a later date.
