Red Level’s Lady Tigers basketball team is only focusing on one aspect of the game this season — improving.
“We’ve improved pretty much every year,” Red Level coach Delores Douglas said. “Hopefully, we can play it one game at a time and do something in area this year.”
This season, the Lady Tigers will be facing Excel, Flomaton and Mobile Christian in Class 2A, Area 1.
Douglas said her team finished with a .500 record in the 2008-09 season.
“We’ll have a little bit more experience this year as far as the post goes,” she said. “The one senior player we lost was our starting point guard, but we’ve got some girls that will be able to step up and fill in. I think we’ll do okay. So we’ll have to just work hard to improve each day.”
Douglas did not name any starters this season, saying she “hasn’t made any decisions yet.”
“They may change from game to game and they will have to work for those positions,” she said.
There are 13 players on the team — three seniors, two juniors, four sophomores and four freshmen.
On offense and defense, Douglas said she will be “mixing” it up.
“I’m going to have to see what works the best to mix it up some,” she said. “We’re primarily a zone team, so we’ll add some man-to-man in there some as well.”
Douglas is entering her sixth year as the head girls basketball coach and, as far as goals are concerned, she said the team will be taking it “one game at a time.”
“Hopefully, we’ll make it out of area and that’s our biggest focus right now,” Douglas said. “And just to improve from year to year.”
The Lady Tigers will open their season Thurs., Nov. 19, in Brewton, where they will face W.S. Neal.
