Turn out for the Alligator Trot 5K road race and walk was “unprecedented,” race director Karen Johnson said.

Johnson said there were 298 registered for the 17th annual race, which was held in conjunction with the 142nd Masonic Celebration on Saturday.

“We had 284 cross the finish line,” Johnson said. “As far as participation, I couldn’t be happier.”

Johnson said the youngest participant was 4 years old, and the oldest was 78 years old.

“I think it went pretty smooth,” she said. “We had more water tables this year, and we had a lot of good fruit for the finish line. There was entertainment for those waiting on results, and flex fitness provided a boot camp for those interested after the trot.”

Johnson said next year, she has to break the 300-mark on race registrants.

“I always try to go a little bit above from what I did the year before,” she said. “I hope that can happen.”

The overall male winner was Matt Dobson, who finished his run in 17 minutes, 15 seconds. The master winner was Bob Walker, who finished at 20:15; the grand master winner was Mark Kannapel, who finished at 18:39; the senior grand master was Robert Lee, who finished at 28:57; and the great-grand master winner was Winston Howell, who finished at 30:03.

The overall female winner was Mary Valdez, who finished her run at 21:28. The master winner was Kelly Wild, who finished at 22:21; the grand master winner was Cheryl Wolfe, who finished at 23:10; and the great grand master winner was Jo Sandelon, who finished at 37:06.

In the walking category, the overall male winner was Ken Wolfe, who walked a 34:44; and the overall female winner was Kimberly Webb, who walked a 35:02.

Additionally, Russell Brown of Newnan, Ga., crossed the finish line first in the cycling portion of the race. Brown won a new Region’s Green Bike for his first-place finish.
