It’s going to be a scorcher.
Daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s, coupled with dewpoints in the lower to mid-70s will allow heat indices to climb above 100 degrees in many areas of the state through early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS on Thursday issued a warning Thursday afternoon and anticipates the need for a heat advisory today.
“The most oppressive days look to be Friday through Monday when dangerous heat indices could reach between 107 and 112 degrees,” the warning stated.
Those planning to be outdoors are encouraged to heed heat safety rules, including:
• Drink plenty of water,
• Take frequent breaks,
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and
• Reserve strenuous exercise for evening.
Heat exhaustion, cramps, or in extreme cases, fatal heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions.
