Thanks to an anonymous tip, four suspected drug dealers were taken off the streets of Opp Tuesday.

Drug Task Force agent Lt. Paul Hudson said the Opp Police Department received a tip about a possible drug transaction occurring at a Lee Street residence.

Hudson said a short time later, DTF agents, along with Opp police officers, set up surveillance on the home to monitor any activity.

“Agent David Harrell stopped a vehicle driven by Albert Dewayne Bonam, and during that time, recovered items that were said to be involved in the drug transaction,” Hudson said. “An officer then went to the Lee Street residence and recovered an amount of crack cocaine.”

Hudson said the tip information and the evidence recovered at the home led to the arrest of Bonam and his passenger, 25-year-old Jonathan Mullins of Opp. Both were charged with distribution of a controlled substance and placed in the Covington County Jail under a $100,000 bond. Bonam also faces a violation of probation charge, which carries no bond.

Hudson said in a separate incident, two additional men were arrested at the Lee Street home.

“A phone call was made to Douglas Womack, who agreed to bring some crack cocaine and marijuana to the residence,” he said. “When he arrived, he and passenger Otto Henderson, were taken into custody in the home’s yard when crack cocaine and marijuana were found inside the vehicle.”

Womack, 26, and Henderson, 27, both of Opp, were charged with the attempted distribution of a controlled substance and held on a $100,000 bond. Additionally, Womack faces a violation of probation charge, which carries no bond.

Hudson encouraged additional tips from the community.

“These tips help us build solid cases against the drug dealers in our county and to be able to prosecute the dealers and get them off the streets, away from our kids,” he said.

DTF agents and Opp officers were assisted by officers with the Alabama Beverage and Control Board.
