An Andalusia native is working to help find a cure for one of the leading cancers in women.

Lorie Locklier, at 2001 graduate of AHS, who now lives and works in the Birmingham area, was recently nominated to participate in a fundraiser for the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

The fundraiser is the 2011 Bombshell Calendar.

“I went to their event last year,” she said. “They had a gala. I believe they are going to do the same thing this year. It seemed like a good cause.

“Ovarian cancer is sort of a common symptom among women – bloating, constantly going to the bathroom, which is something women do every day,” she said.

The calendar is of the 50s and 60s era.

“I am very old-fashioned,” she said. “The calendar being produced is a vintage pin-up art calendar, but it’s not risqué. I think it’s amazing.”

In order to be in the calendar, Locklier must raise $1,564.

“I’m at $775 right now,” she said.

Locklier said that cancer research is dear to her heart because her family has been affected by it.

“My aunt in Mobile was affected by ovarian cancer, but the majority of my family has been affected by cancer in general,” Locklier said.
