MONTGOMERY(AP) — The Republican and Democratic nominees for governor say they plan to run positive campaigns without attacking each other with negative ads.
Republican nominee Robert Bentley made the pledge Tuesday night after winning the nomination over Bradley Byrne. Democratic nominee Ron Sparks made the pledge at a news conference Wednesday.
Sparks said Alabama deserves a clean campaign run on the issues because the state is facing so many problems, including the Gulf oil spill and high unemployment.
Both candidates agree on one thing. They say the winner of the general election Nov. 2 will be the candidate who has the best plan to create jobs.
