Covington County’s 16-to-17-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team swept Butler County on Thursday night.

The county team won the first game 7-2, and managed to squeeze in the second game, despite the rain, and won 4-0.

In the first game, Straughn’s Jonathan Owens pitched 3.0 innings and allowed two runs. Jud Owens pitched 2.0 innings and allowed no runs.

“It was a complete team effort,” CC coach Tyler Wilson said. “The defense was really good for us.

“We had a solid game pitching wise,” he said.

Covington County tallied nine hits in the first-game win.

In the second game, Andalusia’s Quinton Maddox started on the mound, and pitched 3.0 innings and struck out three batters.

“He pitched well,” Wilson said about Maddox.

Florala’s John Bess closed out the game on the mound in the fifth. In between pitchers, Straughn’s Taylor Messick got some pitching time in as well.
