Bike riders throughout Covington County have the opportunity to join with Jackson Honda next weekend in its second annual benefit for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Association.
Brain tumors are the deadliest form of childhood cancer, Cathy Brown, organizer said, adding that the ordeal is terrible for parents.
“At least one parent will have to give up his or her job. So this helps with travel expenses and things that come along with the disease.”
Brown said this year the event is being named for “Papa” Luke Jackson, the former owner of Jackson Honda who passed away in the spring.
Brown said she organized the event last year after she received a flier in the mail about a festival that is held yearly in Birmingham that allows bike riders to take children with brain tumors for a ride.
“All of the money we raise is given to this,” she said. “The Goldwing Riders from Samson go each year and take children for rides.”
Registration for the ride will begin at Sat., July 17, 9 a.m. and the first bike out will be at 10 a.m.
“We will start at Jackson Honda, travel to Hilltop, then to Doc’s Country Store in Opp and Valley Grove Country Store off of 331 before heading back to Jackson Honda,” she said.
The cost is $15 per bike and rider and $10 for a co-rider.
For those who do not want to ride, they can purchase a poker hand for $5.
“We will also have barbecue plates for sale, if people in the community want to eat and listen to the entertainment,” Brown said.
The cost is $5 for the barbecue plates.
Jim Hubbard, a country singer from Laurel Hill, Fla., will entertain the crowd.
Brown said children are welcome and there will be plenty for them to do.
“We will have a bounce house for kids and other things for them to do,” she said.
