Indians, Pirates win

The Indians and Pirates picked up wins Tuesday night at the 11-to-12-year-old end-of-the-season Cal Ripken baseball tournament at Johnson Park.

The Indians beat the Rockies 7-6, while the Pirates edged the Athletics 3-2 in the night cap.

First round tournament play continues tonight with the Braves facing the Yankees at 5:30, and the Twins facing the D’Backs at 7:30 on field No. 1.

Indians 7, Rockies 6

Indian’s Kelley went 1-for-3 with one single and two runs; and Reeves, Warthen, Hinson, Hall and Thompson scored one run each in the win.

The county team scored two runs each in the first and second innings, one run in the third inning and two runs in the sixth inning.

For the Rockies, Joseph Snider went 1-for-3 with a single to lead the city team. James Jones scored three runs, and Jeron Davis, Robert Phillips and Peyton Miller had one run each.

Pirates 3, Athletics 2

Christopher Holley scored the game-winning run off of Joshua Jones’ RBI with two outs in the seventh to help lift the Pirates to the one-run victory.

The Pirates’ defense held the Athletics’ offensive attack at bay in the top of the seventh when they got an out at home plate to keep the game tied at 2-2.

Noah Kelly scored in the third inning on an RBI double from Will Clark after starting the inning with a triple.

The Pirates went on to add one run each in the sixth and seventh innings on a 2-1 deficit to the Athletics.

For the Athletics, K. Green and J. Short scored in the fourth inning on a two-run double from C. Mancil.

Clark went 2-for-3, and Kelly went 2-for-4.

The Indians will play the Pirates on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the tournament.
