County teams see action at tourney

Covington County’s 18-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team fell to the Wiregrass Cardinals 11-7 on Sunday at the 15th annual Church’s Chicken Memorial Day Tournament in Opp.

The county team scored four runs in the first inning, two runs in the second inning and one in the fifth inning.

Wiregrass countered with four runs in the third and five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead late in the win.

In Saturday’s action, the 18-year-old team beat Butler County 12-0, and then in the night cap, lost to Opp 10-1.

Opp scored one run in the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning and six runs in the sixth inning.

Covington County scored its only run in the first inning.

On Friday, Covington County lost 11-3 to Millbrook in its first game of the tournament.

Millbrook scored three runs in the first inning, two runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth in the win.

Covington County scored two runs in the first inning and one run in the sixth.

In 16-to-17-year-old action, Covington County beat Wiregrass Cardinal 8-3 on Sunday, and finished the tournament 2-2.

Covington County will be back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Monroeville at LBWCC.
