I find it hard to believe that in a little more than a month from now, high schools will begin their fall football two-a-days.

It’s definitely a head scratcher to think about how fast this summer has flown by.

Even Andalusia coach Brian Seymore agrees when he said in an interview Thursday that spring has “flown by” and that his players are excited about the opportunity to play this fall.

“It’s flown by since we’ve done spring training,” he said. “We’re just right around the corner from starting football. The 2010 season is upon us. The expectations are high. They’re high for our players, they’re high for our coaches and they’re high in the community, and that’s the way we want it.”

You know after that interview Thursday morning, I would be lying to you if I said I wasn’t as excited about the upcoming football and volleyball seasons.

Don’t get me wrong, this summer has been a good one, and recently I’ve come to realize that it has followed a certain pattern.

After the state softball tournament in Montgomery, the sports content shifted to the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Saints’ run at the regional tournament.

I’m so thankful for that, believe me.

Then, after the Saints ended their season at regionals, the sports section transitioned to that of recreation sports.

In mid June, the regular season was over, and it did go by quickly, believe me.

From that point on, it’s been nothing but coaching news.

More recently with Jimmy Reeves taking the assistant principal and softball coaching job at Opp, and Chris Buckler being hired as the new Florala athletic director and head football coach.

In addition, let’s not forget how the coaching contract was not renewed for long time Red Level basketball coach Fred Kelley.

Along with those, Straughn has hired two new basketball coaches in Marc Tracy and Rusty Andrews; Pleasant Home has hired an assistant football coach in Cody McCain; and RLS has hired a new basketball coach in Allen Catrett.

Wow!

It’s been quite a summer, and All-Stars just started.

I am expecting this month to fly by like June did, and with it will come the planning of the fall football and volleyball season.

Don’t forget that the football magazine will be published in late August, it should be a good one.

Those that are fortunate enough to get to see me between now and the start of the football and volleyball season, don’t fret.

I may look tired, but looks can be deceiving when it comes to the start of another year in high school sports.
