Pleasant Home dominates

Pleasant Home’s Caitlin Jernigan slides safely into third base Friday and later scored during the Class 1A South Regional Softball Tour-nament in Gulf Shores.

GULF SHORES — Pleasant Home picked up two wins on the first day of the Class 1A South Regional Softball Tournament. The Lady Eagles beat Sweet Water 10-0 in six innings to stay in the winner’s bracket, and demolished McIntosh in the first game in an 18-0 victory in three innings. With its second-game win over the Lady Bulldogs, PHS earned its way to play in today’s action. Due to the inclement weather that is headed in the area today, the first games were pushed up one game time slot, and Pleasant Home’s semifinal game was in progress when The Star-News went to press last night. Pleasant Home 10, Sweet Water 0 Pleasant Home’s Anna Bulger turned a double play early to help give the Lady Eagles the needed momentum to beat Sweet Water in six innings. Bulger grabbed a grounder and tagged the runner going from first and threw the batter out at first to turn the double play. The Lady Eagles went on to score four runs in the first inning, three runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth in the win. Raven Woods scored on a passed ball to give the Lady Eagles the 10th run of the game. Caitlin Jernigan went 3-for-4 to lead PHS. Bulger went 2-for-3; Ashley Copeland went 2-for-4 with a double and triple; and Emily Byrd went 2-for-4. Byrd pitched five innings to earn the win, and Helena Weaver pitched one inning for the save. Pleasant Home 18, McIntosh 0 The Lady Eagles scored 18 runs in the first inning to rout MHS in the opening game of the regional tournament. Jernigan, Bulger, Raven Woods, Byrd and Jordan McGhee had two hits each to lead PHS. MHS only tallied one hit in the loss.
