Andalusia holds spring banquet

Andalusia held its annual spring sports banquet Monday night in the Bulldog Bistro at the high school.
There, AHS celebrated its five spring sports’ seasons of soccer, softball, baseball, tennis and golf.
Soccer
AHS coach Tim Ramsden thanked the school board, the school administration, the City of Andalusia and the parents for all of their help during the first ever soccer season at the school.
“They never backed down,” Ramsden said about the team. “They really did the city and school well.”
Ramsden recognized each player on the team and gave them certificates.
Softball
The Lady Bulldogs finished their season at the Class 4A, Area 3 tournament, falling to Ashford in the loser’s bracket championship game.
AHS coach Teresa Herring recognized all of the junior varsity and varsity players, along with the three seniors on the team.
Individual awards went to: Sam Greene, who won the academic award; Tori Cleghorn, who won the most improved award; Abbie Young and Olivia Dixon, who won the Bulldog award; Maggie Lambert, who won the coaches award; Andi Hughes, who won the offensive most valuable player award; and Jessica Park, who won the defensive MVP award.
Baseball
Andalusia finished its season with a 19-11 record and in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
The Bulldogs will graduate three seniors off of the team this year, but will have a lot of younger players returning next season.
“This is a great step toward where our baseball program is going to go to,” AHS coach Jonathan Rasberry said.
Rasberry recognized each player on the team, and awarded individual awards.
Jay Brewer won the academic award; Zach Ward won the defensive MVP award; Grayson Campbell won the offensive MVP award; Tyler Raines won the Bulldog award; and Stewart Studstill won the team captain award.
Boys’ tennis
The boys’ tennis team finished its season with a 10-3 record, and at sectionals.
AHS coach Perry Dillard recognized all players on the team, and awarded individual awards.
Tao Chen won the most improved award; Ellis Walker won the academic award and Bulldog award; Jackson Moore won the MVP award; and Alex Evans and Jonathan Wiggins won the team captains awards.
Girls’ tennis
The Lady Bulldogs finished their season with a bid at the Class 4A state tournament in Mobile. Additionally, the team won the sportsmanship award at the state tournament. The sportsmanship award is voted on by other teams that are competing at the tournament.
AHS coach Daniel Bulger recognized each player, and awarded individual awards.
Anna Beth Bowden won the newcomer award; Elisabeth Christensen won the Bulldog award; Jennifer Botta won the most improved award; Meredith Tillman won the academic award; Susie Watson and Tillman won the team captains award; and Sarah Atkinson won the MVP award.
Golf
AHS coach Marshall Locke recognized each player on the team and awarded individual awards.
Lars Whisonant won the newcomer of the year award; Hunter Dendy won the most improved award; Kathryn Williams won the scholastic award; Josh Atkinson won the medalist award for shooting the lowest round on a consistent basis; and Grayson Gantt and Atkinson won the team captains award.
Atkinson will travel to play at Grand National in Opelika on Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Class 4A state tournament.
