An Andalusia teen is behind bars after he allegedly fled from a break-in at Andalusia Recycling Sunday morning.

Sgt. Cody Warren of the Andalusia Police Department said dispatch received a report that someone was breaking into the Baisden Street business at approximately 8:15 a.m. Warren said when Officer Steve McGowin arrived five minutes later, he saw 19-year-old Aaron Lee Rhudy run from the front door of the building.

“Officer McGowin pursued (Rhudy), who ran into a wooded area off Dunson Street and Bais-den,” Warren said. “Other officers then positioned themselves around the perimeter and called for Officer Nic Ireland and his K-9 partner, Zico. Through their efforts, the two located the subject a short time later on Dunson Street.”

Warren said Rhudy was taken into custody without incident and charged with burglary III, theft of property III and attempting to elude a police officer. He was booked into the Covington County Jail and held on a $16,000 bond.

Warren said Rhudy did take several items from inside the business; however, all were dropped during the pursuit and recovered by officers.

“Thanks to the quick response by Officer McGowin to the scene and the tracking by Officer Ireland and his partner, this incident was resolved quickly,” Warren said. “It was a good job done all around by everyone involved.”
