Those wishing to commemorate the life of the late Andalusia High School band director Jim Nettles will have their chance Sat., June 12.
Nettles, who passed away in March from cancer, was described as one of AHS’s greatest band directors.
His wife, Arlene, has organized a memorial concert for next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Andalusia’s First Presbyterian Church.
“In my mind, this just an appropriate thing to do,” Nettles said. “So many people have said they wanted to come and show their respect after Jim’s passing, and I thought a concert was the thing to do.”
Concert performers include Rebecca Barrineau Taylor, the director of musical ministries, organist and choir master at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Montgomery and the Montgomery Choral director; and Dale Riegle, a member of the Pensacola, the Mobile, and Gulf Coast symphonies and adjunct instructor of trumpet at Pensacola Junior College who will present a collection of musical selections relevant to the late band director, his students and his family.
Following the music, there will be a time to share memories in the fellowship hall of the church. A small reception will also be held.
All are invited to attend this tribute to his memory.
