Kinston wins PHS softball tournament

Kinston beat Flomaton 4-2 in the finals on Saturday to win Pleasant Home’s annual softball tournament.
Pleasant Home advanced to the semifinals after a 3-1 victory over Andalusia in the morning game, but fell to the Lady Hurricanes 4-2 in the semis.
Kinston scored five runs with two outs in the top of the sixth inning in its 7-2 win over Opp to knock the Lady Bobcats out of the tournament to advance to the semifinals, where it beat Brantley.
Straughn fell to Brantley 6-0 in the 11 a.m. game.
PHS coach Bradley Stephens said the tournament, as a whole, was a success.
Flomaton 4, Pleasant Home 2
Ashley Copeland went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Pleasant Home.
“We started hitting the ball a little better,” Stephens said.
Emily Byrd pitched three innings and allowed one earned run in the loss.
Pleasant Home 3, Andalusia 1
Pleasant Home’s Raven Woods went 1-for-2; Anna Bulger went 1-for-3; and Mary Schwartz went 1-for-1 with a double to lead the Lady Eagles.
Byrd struck out nine batters in five innings and allowed one earned run.
