The Opp Bobcats outscored Samson 30-17 in the second half Monday night to claim a 51-42 victory at the Daleville Tournament.

Samson led throughout the game 13-9 after the first quarter, 26-21 at halftime and 34-33 at the end of the third quarter.

“We started off kind of slow on the boards,” Opp coach Ronnie Sansom said. “They out rebounded us on both ends in the first half.”

The Bobcats were 17-of-25 at the free throw line and Sansom said that was the “difference in the game.”

“We shot 16 free throws in the fourth quarter and hit 13 of them,” he said.

Opp’s Gavin Free led his team with 16 points and seven rebounds, Tyler Harrison had 12 points and eight rebounds and Steadman Gerber had nine points and four rebounds.

The Bobcats improved to a 4-7 record.

“I think we’re understanding situations better,” Sansom said. “We’re controlling tempo. These guys have played a lot of basketball. They’re finally starting to take control of the game. That’s been the difference for us here lately.”

Opp’s girls also picked up a win at the tournament Monday, defeating Headland 54-24.
