Tigers beat Ashford 7-0, 12-1

Straughn did an about-face and defeated Ashford 7-0, 12-1 in area action Monday night at AHS.
The Tigers were coming off of a 6-5 loss to the Yellow Jackets from Saturday, where they walked 12 batters in the loss.
“The difference was that we didn’t walk 12 batters,” SHS assistant coach Kenneth Skipper said.
In the first game, the Tigers walked five batters and in the second game, two, Skipper said.
“We’ve been playing extremely well in the field,” he said. “And our hitting is pretty decent.
“If we can put that all together, then we’ll be OK,” he said.
In game one, Chase Short and Johnny Owens went 2-for-4 each to lead the Tigers. Owens had two RBIs and Short had one RBI.
Lane Sirmon went 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Zack Turvin went 1-for-3.
Short threw a complete game and struck out six.
In game two, the Tigers were led by Turvin, Doug Mosley and Short had three RBIs each. Turvin went 2-for-4 and Mosley went 2-for-3 in the 11-run victory.
Brennan Head went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Keith Edgar pitched 6.0 innings, allowed one walk and struck out seven for the win on the mound.
Straughn will be back in action tomorrow at Headland for a single area game. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
Andalusia 4, Headland 3
Andalusia beat Headland 4-3 on Monday night.
As of Tuesday, AHS, Straughn, Ashford and Headland are tied 1-1 in area standings.
