Shauna Robertson, chief financial officer for the Covington County Schools, is resigning.

Robertson, who has served at the post for the last 10 years, is leaving April 30 to become the assistant controller at Troy Unive-rsity.

“I really hate to accept this resignation,” said board member Linda Powell when Robertson officially submitted her resignation to the board at Monday’s special-called meeting. “I know it’s a wonderful opportunity, but I don’t know what we will do without you.”

Board member Jimmy Rogers said the county school system has had a “clean sheet for a long time,” and credited Robertson with the system’s current financial position.

For years, the CCSS has been one of the top systems in the state in regards to operating funds held in reserve.

Superintendent Terry Holley expressed his gratitude to Robertson for serving the county and for a “job well done.”

“The county school system can hold its head up high among the other systems in the state,” he said. “(Robertson), you were a big part of that, and for that, we all thank you.”

Board member Jeff Bailey said Robertson has “our utmost confidence” in transitioning to her new post.

Robertson said her new position holds many similarities to that of CFO of the county schools.

“Really, it’s just on a bigger scale,” Robertson said. “I’ve learned quite a lot during my time here. I hope that the lessons I’ve learned here and the tools I’ve obtained will help me at Troy. I’m very excited to grow for the future.”

Holley said a new CFO will be hired in the future, but staff will work in the coming month to familiarize themselves with Robertson’s daily tasks.

“(Staff) meets every afternoon so that we can stay on top of projects and anything that comes up,” he said. “We are bringing in a veteran person to come in and help carry on the functions of the central office over the next few months, so that will help. And we will hire another CFO.”

Board members voted to transfer secretary/bookkeeper Patsy Robbins from Florala High School to assist at the central office. Holley said now, the board must hire someone to fill Robbins’ spot at FHS.

Also during the meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Ronnie Douglas as head football coach at Pleasant Home and voted to re-bid for several air conditioner units throughout the system.

The next board meeting will be held on April 10 at 5:30 p.m.
