County BOE realigns personnel

The Covington County Board of Education announced 16 personnel changes Monday, as a result of the board’s decision to realign the school system.
Superintendent Terry Holley said the changes came as a result of the closing of Florala City Middle School at the end of this school year and the creation of Red Level Elementary School.
“When you make changes to enrollment, changes must be made to the number of teaching units,” Holley said. “(In the county school system’s) case, we had to reduce the units based on the numbers we had.”
Overall, the funding for three teaching units was lost, Holley said. Board members unanimously approved the following personnel changes in a blanket vote, effective at the beginning of the next school ye
ar unless otherwise stated:
• At Florala Middle School:
— to transfer Judith Perry as English teacher at Florala High School.
— to transfer Suzanne Phillips as reading teacher to elementary teacher at Pleasant Home School.
— to transfer Heather Bulger as part-time counselor at FCMS and W.S. Harlan to part-time at WSH and Pleasant Home School.
• At Red Level School:
— to transfer Jessica Ward to as elementary teacher at PHS.
— to accept resignation of Nate Moore as secondary math teacher at the end of this school year.
— to transfer Donna Davis Barnes as a special education teacher to Red Level Elementary School.
— to employ Kristie Pincard as secretary effective July 1 at RLHS.
— to transfer Leonard Glover as custodian at RLES.
— to transfer Brenda J. Sims as special education aide at RLES.
• At Straughn Middle School:
— to transfer Sherri Williams from part-time special education aide to fulltime status at Straughn High School.
— to transfer Rhonda Driver from part-time special education teacher to fulltime status at SHS.
— to transfer Lisa Walker from part-time special education teacher to fulltime status at SHS.
• At WSH:
— to transfer Charlette Suggs from fulltime special education aide to part-time status at FHS and WSH.
• At FHS:
— to non-renew the contract of Roger Dale Hammons as aide, effective at the end of this school year.
• At PHS:
— to transfer Vicki M. Mullen as bus driver at WSH.
• At Fleeta Jr. High:
— to transfer Annie Mae Salter as lunchroom worker at SMS.
In other personnel matters, Holley announced grant funds had been received to cover salaries for the summer months for career tech teachers Daniel Green at FHS and Chris Caldwell at PHS.
The board will meet again in a special called meeting on Tues., May 25, at noon.
