A Horn Hill Grocery clerk was allegedly assaulted and robbed just after locking up Wednesday night.

The female victim, who was not identified, called 911 for help at approximately 11:15 p.m.

“She stated that after she locked the outside door and turned off the lights, two males approached her and demanded money,” said Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks. “She stated that she was struck with an unknown object and had the money bag taken from her.”

Meeks said the clerk suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Opportunity EMS.

“Unfortunately, it was dark and she was unable to get a description of the men or of the vehicle they were traveling in,” he said.

The amount of money stolen was not released.

“I suggest that business owners should have adequate lighting and security measures should they stay open extended hours,” he said. “Plus, we’re happy to provide a deputy to stand by while the store is closing.”

To request a deputy, business owners are asked to contact dispatch at 334-427-4911.

Those with any information concerning this incident are asked contact the Covington County Sheriff’s Office at 334-428-2640 or one’s local law enforcement agency.
