Although Covington County’s not expected to see widespread snow, ice or sleet this morning, EMA director Susan Carpenter said officials are preparing for the worst.

“The EMA has been working with the sheriff’s department and the engineer’s department,” Carpenter said Thursday afternoon. “If there are any problems with bridges or roads, they’ve got some sand they can put down to improve those driving conditions.”

Carpenter said the moisture in the area is projected to leave by 3 a.m. this morning, but it is possible there could be “spotty ice” on bridges or roads.

“By 6 a.m. (today), it should be just dry air but still very cold,” she said.

No additional precipitation is expected for the rest of the week, but temperatures should remain low.

The National Weather Service’s projected highs and lows are as follows: Today — 38 degrees and 17 degrees; Saturday — 42 degrees and 16 degrees; Sunday — 45 degrees and 14 degrees.
