With education budgets tighter than ever, local schools are working overtime to figure out ways to still be able to provide students with the best, and that’s just what parents, students and school faculty are doing at Fleeta Jr. High.

The school has teamed up with Burger King of Opp to raise money for much-needed items, such as ink cartridges and other school supplies that help aid office personnel and teachers.

“Burger King has set a night where they will give us 20 percent of the profits made during that night,” Fleeta Principal Roger McLain said. “We have tickets that each student takes home and then everyone that goes to Burger King between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. will count toward our profits.”

McLain said there is no charge for the tickets; however, Burger King requires one to present the ticket at the register before ordering.

“We average about $200-$300 each time we do this,” he said. “We did it earlier this school year and have done it a couple of times in the past.”

McLain said thus far, the school has made “well over $1,000.”

Local residents who wish to partake in the event, but do not have children in the school, may pick up tickets at the Fleeta office, McLain said.
