AHS girls rise to No. 8, PHS girls ranked

Andalusia’s Lady Bulldogs rose to No. 8 and Pleasant Home’s girls are No. 10 in the last Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball poll that was released today for this season.

The Class 4A Lady Bulldogs beat Brantley, a Class 1A team, 63-49 to earn their 21st straight win of the season on Tuesday night, and improved to 23-2 on the season.

AHS will play host to the Class 4A, Area 3 tournament on Feb. 9 and 11.

The Lady Bulldogs will finish the regular season tomorrow night on the road against rival Opp.

Straughn’s girls beat Red Level 58-23, also on Tuesday, to improve to 20-4 on the season.

The Lady Tigers were nominated, but are not ranked in the poll.

The Class 1A Lady Eagles improved to 12-4 on Monday night after a 50-24 rout over Class 4A’s W.S. Neal.

The Lady Eagles will also host their area tournament. The tournament will begin on Feb. 10, and will end Feb. 13 for the championships.

For boys, Red Level and Pleasant Home were nominated, but aren’t ranked.
