Members of the Andalusia High School varsity cheerleading squad attended a three-day National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Camp during the weekend.

NCA instructor Tasha Thrower worked with the squad teaching the cheerleaders several cheers, chants and dances during the three-day camp.

Thrower said the purpose of the camp was to teach the members of the AHS squad new material and to enhance their skills.

The AHS squad did well at the camp with seven members of the 13-member squad being nominated for All-American honors.

Alison Fuqua was nominated for her jumps and earned All-American honors. Also nominated for her jumps were Whitni Pouncey. Kala Rodgers was nominated for All-American for her tumbling ability. Shelley Nall and Beth King were both nominated for All-American honors for their leadership. Tanesha Freeman and Chandler Cagle were nominated for All-American honors for their dance ability.

Each cheerleader nominated for All-American honors had to try-out doing a series of jumps, chants and cheers.

The AHS squad was also awarded several honors by Thrower on behalf of NCA.

The squad was presented with a Stunt Smart Award, The Herkie Team Award, Jump Award and Motion Award-Dance.

The AHS cheerleaders will share their abilities with youngsters at a camp scheduled to be held at the end of July. The camp will be open to girls in grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
