In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “dream,” several events are planned beginning tomorrow and ending Monday with marches in Florala and Opp.

In Opp, there will be a citywide march at 10 a.m. beginning at city hall and ending Mullins Street.

Organizer Pastor Timothy Williams said the reason for the march is to celebrate King’s legacy.

“He didn’t put his life on the line just for African Americans,” he said. “He did it for everyone. The reason we do (the march) is to keep the dream alive. ‘His dream’ was not in vain, if we can keep the dream alive, our boys and girls will come off the streets.

“We want to keep the history alive, that’s the reason for the march,” he said. “We want everybody to come. We’re trying to expand the march. It has been march on the sidewalk, but this year we’re going to be in the streets. We want to change things and do it the right way.”

Following the march, there will be a program at Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ at 1 p.m.

In Florala, the annual march will be at 11 a.m. Monday beginning at the Carver Community Center, with a special service held at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church at 6 p.m.

The following other events will be held tomorrow:

• “A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” will be held at 3 p.m. at Bethel AME Church; and

• A program will be held at 6 p.m. at Faith Deliverance Apostolic Church in Lockhart.
