ALEA responds to Crenshaw County home invasion, hostage situation

At approximately 11:11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, Troopers assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division, Special Agents assigned to ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), along with members of ALEA’s SWAT Team all responded and assisted the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office with a home invasion and hostage situation in Crenshaw County.

The incident occurred at a residence in the 3000 Block of Campground Church Road in Crenshaw County where the suspect fired at three other individuals at the residence, however, no one was struck or injured.

The suspect, later identified as Jerrol Leon McLeod, 62, of Luverne, ultimately exited the residence and was taken into custody. McLeod was charged with three counts of Attempted Murder and First-Degree Burglary and was booked into the Crenshaw County Jail with no bond.

No officers were injured during the course of the incident. The scene has been cleared and deemed safe for those who live and travel in the area.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Crenshaw County District Attorney’s Office.
