In the wee hours of a cold Monday morning, our mother took her first breath in heaven.

Hazel Herring Jordan

Hazel Herring Jordan was born on Feb. 5, 1930, and left this earth on Jan. 6, 2025, not for a better place, but for the best place.

Claude and Lillian Herring raised their daughter Hazel and her little brother Eddie to be hard-working, loving, and caring individuals.

Hazel had an artistic side and freely shared her basket making, crocheting, quilting, and cooking skills. Andalusia High School students knew her as their cafeteria manager who ran a tight ship.

Hazel’s second home was Southside Baptist Church. She knew every member by name and could always be found cooking in the kitchen, enjoying VIP, rocking babies in the nursery, or nodding off during church.

Hazel is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Paula and George Kustos and Suan and Ken Lacy; her grandchildren Paul and Amber Kustos, George and Kayla Kustos, Rachel and Owen Sorg, Rebecca and Jared Shaffer, Israel Lacy, and Hope Lacy; her great-grandchildren Mary, Sophia, Lily, Levi, Rider, Lola Lee, Oliver, Ivy, Hayes, Beau, Rosie, and Ruby; her inherited grandchildren Kenny, Beth, Charity, Faith, Ben, and Josh, along with their families; and her nieces and nephews Sheldon, Bruce, Doug, Pat, David, Eddie, Jim, Becky, and Andy, along with their families.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lillian Herring; her husband, Paul Jordan; brother, Eddie Herring; great-grandson Willard; and nephew, Charlie.

Hazel was laid to rest in a simple private service. A memorial and celebration of her life will be forthcoming at Southside Baptist Church in a few weeks.
