A two-vehicle crash Sunday, Jan. 12, claimed the life of a young child and resulted in four others being injured, including two other children.

The accident occurred on Sunday at approximately 5:22 p.m. on Alabama Hwy. 55, near the 45-mile marker, approximately 7 miles north of the Red Level city limits in Covington County.

A 4-year-old was airlifted from the scene to a local hospital where the juvenile was later pronounced deceased.

The child was critically injured when the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox she was a passenger in struck a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by an 18-year-old juvenile.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the 18-year-old driver was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Equinox, Catherine Grace Nixon, 34, of Andalusia was injured and airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Along with the 4-year-old passenger, another juvenile, who is 5-years-old, was injured and transported to a local hospital.

ALEA said no additional information is available as State Troopers with the Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the incident.

A Go-Fund-Me page has been established for the Andalusia family involved in the crash. The page is named “Urgent Help for Katie and Her Kids’ Recovery.”
