Driven to work in the medical field, Dr. Lee Poston has brought his podiatry practice to the local community and Covington County through his practice Advanced Foot and Ankle in Andalusia.

A native of Rigby, Idaho, Poston obtained his doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Kent State University’s College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Following school, he went to a three-year residency program at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan.

“We are grateful to be here in Andalusia and welcomed by the community. From the day we moved here, we have felt accepted at school, at churches, at community centers, and at the hospital. It’s always hard moving, but Andalusia has made it as easy as that can be, and the transition has been great,” Poston said.

Poston’s hometown of Rigby is about two hours south of Yellowstone National Park.

“People think it’s been a big change coming to small-town Alabama, but you could take my hometown and drop it next to Andalusia. Other than the accent, it would be exactly the same, and the same could be said if Andalusia was dropped up there. We feel right at home, but the weather is not as cold here as it is in Idaho,” he said.

His residency involved completing a foot surgery and reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery.

Poston and his family previously lived in Arab, Alabama, for the past four years. They relocated to Andalusia and held a soft opening for Advanced Foot and Ankle earlier this year on June 3.

“Our practice has now been here in Andalusia for about six months. It has been great, and we are excited to be part of the community. When I had the opportunity to start my own practice in a community that didn’t have much foot or ankle care, I jumped on it. I worked with Patty Ashworth and Vickie Demers, and it took a while, but once we got things worked out, we made our way down here,” he said.

Andalusia Foot and Ankle offers several services including general foot surgery, reconstructive foot surgery, biomechanical evaluations, custom foot orthotics and braces, injection therapy, minimal incision surgery, arch supports and ankle braces, physical therapy, foot health care education, sports medicine, and taping/strapping.

“We literally do everything from fracture care of ankles and heels and lower limb to an Achilles tendon rupture or a calf-lengthening procedure and wounds. We also do the bunions, hammer toes, and routine cares,” Poston said.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is a member of the American Podiatric Medical and Alabama Podiatric Medical Associations.

“I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field but wasn’t sure what area to specialize in. Many of my siblings have a medical background. I wanted to do something where you don’t see the same thing every day. I have a brother who is in internal medicine. When it’s flu season, you see the flu. With podiatry, it might be a person who needs diabetic shoes or somebody who has a broken toe or an ankle fracture. Everybody is a little different, and it’s the variety that really got me,” Poston said.

The Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Advanced Foot and Ankle on Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Poston and his wife, Roni, are the parents of seven children ranging from 5 to 24 years old.

Advanced Foot and Ankle is located at 301 Medical Park Drive, Suite B, in Andalusia. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
