Pleasant Home scores wins over county rival Red Level

Pleasant Home traveled to county rival Red Level Friday night and went home with two wins.
Lady Eagles 38, Lady Tigers 14
The Lady Eagles held the Lady Tigers scoreless through the first period, jumping out to an early lead that led to a 38-14 victory.
Chloe Bush helped spark the Lady Eagles with five points in the first period, including going three-for-four from the foul line. Presley Kelley hit a couple buckets for four points early on to lift Pleasant Home to an 11-0 lead after one period.
Bush continued to take fouls in the second period and again going three-for-four from the line while Lyla Watson and Lilly Adams each added points in the second period. Red Level got on the board with a three-pointer from Elizabeth Carroll while Anna Claire Gladwell added a free-throw, making the score 18-4 at the half.
The Lady Eagle defense continued to dominate in the third period, holding Red Level shooters to just a single basket scored by Greer Meeks. On the offensive side, Pleasant Home added to its lead with a total of seven third-period points with Kelley Emma Anderson, and Layla Watson each hitting buckets to make the score 25-6 after three periods.
Both teams saw their best offensive output come in the final period, but the Lady Eagles still outpaced the Lady Tigers, 13-8, leading to the final score of 38-14. Camani Crittenden, Breaunna Carroll, Blakeleigh Lee and Paige Smith each scored baskets for Red Level. Bush continued to lead the Lady Eagle offense, scoring six in the final period with Jade Rodriguez, Anderson, and Brooklyn Headley each adding to the lead.
Bush finished the game with 14 points for the Lady Eagles, including going 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. Kelley came away with seven points and Anderson had six.
E. Carroll’s three-pointer made her the leading scorer for Red Level with Crittenden, B. Carroll, Lee, Meeks and Smith each finishing with two points.
The victory lifted the Lady Eagles to a 3-3 record. They will travel to Samson on Friday, Dec. 13.
The Lady Tigers drop to 0-10 and will travel to Zion Chapel Thursday, Dec. 12.
Eagles 68, Tigers 61
The Red Level boys’ team kept its game against Pleasant Home close throughout the contest, but the Eagles kept the advantage and ultimately notched the 68-61 victory.
Early on, it was the defenses that controlled the game with Pleasant Home holding a 4-2 lead halfway through the first period. Then, the Eagles got hot and scored seven to take an 11-4 edge. Red Level came right back with eight straight points to take a 12-11 lead. But shooting by John Luke Colvin, who had two three-pointers in the first period, and eight points by Brody Bryan sparked the Tigers to a 16-12 by the end of the first.
Bryan continued to have a hot hand in the second period, adding another eight points, while Dillan Purifoy notched a three-pointer and two additional buckets. Red Level stayed within striking distance with seven points, including a three-pointer, by Buddy Griffin and four from Aaron Maby. At the half, Pleasant Home held a 39-30 edge.
Red Level chipped away at the Eagle’s advantage in the third with Justin Patterson knocking in 10 points. With 6:07 to go in the period, the Tigers got to within three points, 41-38. But, the Eagles outscored the Tigers 16-5 in the final minutes of the period to take a 54-46 edge into the fourth.
While outscored in the fourth, 15-14, the Eagles maintained its advantage down the stretch to secure the 68-61 win.
Brody Bryan led the way for Pleasant Home with 21 points while Dillan Purifoy was right behind him with 19. Colvin finished with 12 and Jackson Hawkins had 11.
Justin Patterson was the leading scorer for Red Level with 14 points. Griffin finished with 11 while Maby had nine. Grayson Hodges and Darrien Carpenter each chipped in seven points.
The win keeps the Eagles perfect on the season with a 5-0 record. They will travel to face Samson on Friday, Dec. 13.
The Tigers fall to 1-9 on the season. They will play Opp on Thursday, Dec. 12, in the first round of the Andalusia Richard Robertson Christmas Tournament.
