Cheerleaders from Pleasant Home School made history this year and competed in their first-ever AHSAA State Cheerleading Championship in Birmingham on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Led by coaches Christin Harrington and Ashton Sansom, the Pleasant Home Eagles finished fourth out of nine schools in the 1A game day division.

“We are so proud of this cheer squad. They worked so hard and had great attitudes the entire time. They have grown so much as a squad and continue to rise to every challenge,” Harrington and Sansom said. “Immediately after the competition, they were ready to get back to work and get even better. We appreciate that competitive spirit and know it’s going to take them as far as they want to go.”

Three members of Pleasant Home’s squad spoke about their experience.

“We got to eat a good meal, and I got to spend the night at a hotel. When we got to the competition, it was fun because we got to watch everyone cheer. I enjoyed hanging out with my friends and cheering,” junior Emma Anderson said.

“It was such a fun experience, and I can’t wait for next year. I loved getting to go with all my best friends. I liked getting to watch all the other teams and their different routines. I am so proud of my team and what we have accomplished,” sophomore Lily Adams said.

“Going to state is a big accomplishment for me. I am so glad that we got the chance to go and that I got to be a part of it. We worked so hard and will work even harder to get that ring on our finger for next year,” eighth grader Mollie Jae Wiggins said.
