LBW Community College is excited to announce the launch of a Women’s Flag Football program beginning in Fall 2025, making it one of the first institutions in Alabama to embrace this emerging sport under the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). This initiative aligns with the Alabama Community College System’s commitment to expanding athletic opportunities for female students across the state as they unveil flag football as a sanctioned NJCAA sport within the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC).

“Women’s flag football is on the rise at the collegiate level. Through an effort with the Alabama Recreation and Parks Foundation, we’re excited to offer an additional opportunity for our female student-athletes at the two-year level,” said ACCC Commissioner Dean Myrick. “This sport is popular at our state’s high schools, and I believe that will translate into a competitive league for us.”

LBW’s decision to establish a team reinforces its commitment to enhancing student experiences and fostering a vibrant campus life.

LBWCC President Dr. Brock Kelley expressed his enthusiasm for this groundbreaking addition.

This program represents more than just a sport—it’s a new opportunity for our female athletes to showcase their talents, develop lifelong skills, and build community. LBW is proud to be at the forefront of this initiative, providing our students with innovative and enriching experiences both on and off the field.”

As one of the pioneering schools to launch a women’s flag football team, LBW is setting the stage for a new era in collegiate sports across Alabama. We look forward to welcoming our first team members and watching them excel at LBW.

About the ACCC
The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) is a 501 (c)(3) collegiate athletic conference and member of the NJCAA and Region XXII. Participating member colleges are comprised of 114 individual teams, providing opportunities for more than 2,500 student-athletes. Sports that make up the ACCC are baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, volleyball, and esports. ACCC colleges have won NJCAA Division I national championships in baseball, men’s golf and softball and Division II national championships in cross country, men’s golf and women’s and women’s tennis. Final Four appearances have been made in women’s basketball, and ACCC athletes have ultimately competed as Olympians, in the NFL, and MLB, including producing World Series champions.
