On Saturday, Oct. 19, Lake Demopolis was the scene for the Straughn High School Bass Team’s fourth tournament of the Wiregrass Student Angler Trail.
Demopolis Reservoir is a 10,000-acre reservoir located near the City of Demopolis in Marengo County. Demopolis Lake is downstream of the towns of Eutaw in Greene County on the Warrior River and Gainesville on the Tombigbee River. This reservoir is the second-largest lake in the Black Warrior-Tombigbee system. The lake extends 48 miles upriver on the Black Warrior River and 53 miles up the Tombigbee River.
Since being impounded in the early 1950s by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Demopolis Lake has become best known for its excellent largemouth bass fishing. Some other good fisheries located in the Demopolis Reservoir include hybrid striped bass and bream.
Seven teams fished on Lake Demopolis and five of those weighed in fish. With 79 total boats participating, the results were commendable.
In the high school division, there was a total of 66 boats.
The team of Rex Burkett and Kal-El Savage finished 26th in the tournament with four fish weighing 4.58 pounds.
The team of Austin Alexander and Brooks Clark finished 29th with four fish weighing 4.17 pounds.

The Straughn team will head to Lake Eufaula for their first tournament with Bass Nation on Saturday, Nov. 2.
