Cross country teams prepare for sectionals on Thursday

With the regular season now complete, the six cross-country teams in Covington County now turn their attention toward sectional meets scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 31.

The top four girls and boys’ teams in each class of a section and the top six individuals not on the section rosters of the four qualifying teams will advance to the state championship meet on Saturday, Nov. 9.

In 1A-2A Section 1, Florala, Pleasant Home, and Red Level will compete in a 13-team field at the Covington County Schools Track Facility. The girls’ 5K will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the boys’ 5K at 10:30 a.m. Other teams competing in 1A-2A will be Billingsley, Breakthrough Charter School, Francis Marion, Goshen, Holy Spirit, Kinston, Samson, Tuscaloosa Academy, University Charter School, and Zion Chapel.

In 4A Section 1, Opp and Straughn will compete in a 12-team field at the CCS Track Facility. The girls’ 5K will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the boys’ 5K at 11:30 a.m. Other teams competing in 4A will be Ashford, Bayshore Christian, Geneva, Houston Academy, Jackson, Loachapoka, New Brockton, Orange Beach, Satsuma, St. Michael, and Northside Methodist.

In 5A Section 1, Andalusia will compete in a 13-team field at Loxley Municipal Park. The boys’ 5K will begin at 11:45 a.m. followed by the girls’ 5K at 12:20 p.m. Other teams competing in 5A will be Booker T. Washington Magnet, Brewbaker Tech, Carroll, Charles Henderson, Citronelle, Elberta, Eufaula, Faith Academy, Headland, LeFlore, Providence Christian, and Vigor.

Admission is $10 for each meet and must be paid in cash. Tickets for the 5A Section 1 meet will also be available online through GoFan.
