Andalusia (5-4, 4-1 5A Region 2) will bid for a third straight win when Montgomery Catholic (8-0, 5-0) visits in the Bulldogs’ regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.

This will be the sixth matchup between the two teams since they first met in 2014. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 3-2 over the Knights.

“It seems like this is the same song, third verse,” Head Coach Trent Taylor said. “Two years ago, we played them here when they were undefeated before they put us away. Last year, we went into halftime up 7-0 before they dominated the second half. Catholic has the best athletes in Montgomery, and we want to go ‘woe is me,’ but they have some of the best coaches who do a good job of having them ready. We know they will be a tremendous challenge, but at the end of the day, it’s about us taking care of Andalusia.”

Last week, Andalusia downed Carroll on the road, 45-14. Montgomery Catholic was also victorious away from home and defeated Greenville, 50-14.

Taylor said he was proud of his seniors for their efforts.

“It’s a small class, and they have done a good job keeping us together. I’m proud of the whole bunch for the ups and downs we have had. With the adversity they have had, it would have been easy to raise the white flag four or five weeks ago. I know how talented Catholic is but want our kids to play up to their potential,” he said.

Taylor added that this season’s MO has been up one week and down the next week.

“It was really good to see us play with the similar energy from the week before, especially doing it on the road. I was proud of the way our kids responded and got things early returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown. If there wasn’t a fire, that certainly ignited one. They were locked in and focused on doing what they needed to do.”

The win over Carroll gave the team an opportunity to play some younger players.

“These young men have not seen much game action all year. You hate that but have to put your best out there. Hopefully, that gives them a little spark not only in this week’s practice but even going into next year. They get a taste of what Friday night football is all about,” Taylor said.

The Knights overcame a seven-point halftime deficit for a 27-14 win over the Bulldogs in 2023.
