Andalusia (4-4, 3-1 5A Region 2) will play its final road game of the regular season and see three of its former coaches in a region contest at Carroll (1-7, 0-4) on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.
This will be the 31st matchup between the two teams since 1936. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 17-8-5 against the Eagles.
“I am not really familiar with Carroll except for a few years ago when we were both in 5A as region opponents. We did not get to play in 2020 over there because they had a lot of players affected by COVID,” Head Coach Trent Taylor said. “Coach (Matt) Mellown and Griffin Windham were with us on offense, and Coach (J.P.) Spann was on defense. This is a game that means a lot to them and has a lot of familiarity as far as coaches are concerned. I know they will have their team ready to play, and we will make sure our kids are also ready to compete at a high level.”
Last week, Andalusia clicked on all cylinders and dispatched Eufaula, 35-7. Carroll was also at home but fell just short to Greenville, 22-20.
Taylor added that he was very proud of his team for picking up a huge win in region play.
“We did not play really well two weeks ago and certainly did not play up to our standard. As coaches, we had to take a huge responsibility for that. We took ownership of it and challenged our kids to which they responded with four really good days of practice last week. We went out in pads on Thursday and made sure we were locked in as a football team and coaching staff. Eufaula was on a roll and had a big win the week before.”
Taylor was proud of the intensity his team brought in all areas against Eufaula.
“We had intensity on offense and defense as well as our kickoff and punt teams. We executed at a high level, and it helped to show these kids what they are capable of. We have dug ourselves in a little bit of a hole in region play but can only control what we do. I hope we show up this week with that same intensity and continue to get better,” he said.
The Bulldogs took the previous meeting with the Eagles in 2021, 48-24.
