Roads, law enforcement top expenses for county

The Covington County Commission unanimously approved the county’s 2025 budget at a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The total budget approved will be over $30.2 million for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30, 2025.

The road and bridge department was the highest department at approximately $9.15 million followed by the Sheriff’s Department at approximately $3.4 million and approximately $2.7 million to the Covington County Jail. The commission and general government’s budget will be just over $1.18 million.

The Probate Judge’s department was allotted approximately $908,051 for the new fiscal year. The appraisal department will have approximately $720,863, while the Revenue Commissioner’s department was set for $612,549.

The transit department’s budget was set for $571,975 and followed by appropriations at $468,965. The Covington County EMA department will have a total of approximately $283,158.
