Andalusia, Opp, Straughn record volleyball wins

Andalusia earned a pair of home volleyball sweeps against Kinston and Greenville last week.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in 5A Area 3 with a 3-0 win (25-3, 25-12, 25-15) over Kinston and a 3-0 area victory (25-7, 25-9, 25-17) over Greenville.
“Our girls have done a good job of staying focused on our goals. We understand that we have to work for anything we get. This is a marathon and we’re trying to learn to sustain all the way through regardless of how the circumstances seem,” AHS Head Coach Sarah Kelley said.
Jaidyn Berry paced Andalusia with 16 kills in the win against Kinston. Taya Newton added six kills, while Olivia Cravey tallied 22 assists.
Newton and Annaleigh Fischer shared the team lead with eight kills each against Greenville. Berry followed with seven kills, and Cravey had 24 assists.
In other action, Opp outlasted Straughn for a 3-2 area win (25-21, 16-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-10) on Tuesday and pushed their overall record to 12-6 and 2-0 in 4A Area 4.
Braleigh Nall earned seven kills and three blocks for Opp, while Ada Blockstock collected three kills and four blocks. Chloe Bentley notched seven aces and eight digs. Madie Wilson had 28 assists and 19 digs, and Crislyn Birge picked up 27 digs.
The Lady Tigers rebounded with a 3-0 area win (25-6, 25-6, 25-8) at Pike County on Thursday and moved to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in 4A Area 4.
Blakeley Smith tallied eight kills, six aces, and four digs in the win over Pike County. Audrey Lindsey and Bailey Johnson each earned six kills. Claire Howe garnered 17 assists, and Arina Thai earned 12 assists.
All three teams return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. Andalusia faces Greenville, Opp hosts New Brockton, and Straughn welcomes Geneva.
