The Florala Wildcats scored quickly on their first possession and never looked back, scoring a shutout homecoming victory over the Pleasant Home Eagles, 48-0.

While Pleasant Home took first possession of the game, an eight-yard sack by Jacob Bryan quickly put the Eagles behind the sticks and leading to a punt.

Taking possession near field on a short punt, Wildcat quarterback Gage Davis and receiver Elijah McMeans connected on consecutive passes of 19 and 13 yards, respectively. Rayshon Coleman took care of the rest, running the ball in from the 17-yard line for a 6-0 Wildcat lead early in the first.

Florala extended its lead to 14-0 on its following possession, capped by a 20-yard pass from Davis to McMeans. Davis also ran in for a successful 2-point conversion.

Pleasant Home found themselves punting again to begin the second period and once again Florala would make the most of the possession, going 56 yards for a touchdown. An 18-yard run by Jayden Bradberry set up 5-yard touchdown between Purifoy and McMeans. Dalton Jackson’s point-after made the score 21-0.

On the kickoff, Pleasant Home’s Jacob Bryan found some running room, giving the Eagles good field position at the Wildcat 39. But, a big sack by Rayshon Coleman backed the Eagles up, ultimately leading to a turnover on downs at the Wildcat 42.

From that spot, the Wildcats took six plays to find the end zone once again. Coleman had a big run of 22 yards to start the drive and Greyson West found room for a 14-yard gain. Coleman ended the drive with a 5-yard dash into the end zone. The PAT was no good, but the Wildcats held a 27-0 lead, which they took into halftime.

Florala picked up where they started and on the first play of the second half Davis found Noah Bryan for a 38-yard gain. Coleman then ran 25 yards up to the goal line. At that point, the Pleasant Home defense stood firm, forcing the Wildcats backward and taking possession on a turnover on downs. Unfortunately, being deep in their own territory backfired as the snap on a punt attempt when through the end zone for a safety, making the score 29-0.

Down the stretch, Florala capitalized on a couple of Eagle turnovers to secure the region victory.

Florala (3-1, 1-1) will travel to McKenzie (3-1, 1-1) for a big region contest on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Pleasant Home (1-3, 0-2) returns home for a matchup against Red Level (1-2, 0-2) on Friday, Sept. 20.
