Andalusia scores county wins over Opp, Straughn in volleyball

Andalusia earned two volleyball victories this week with a 3-2 win at Opp on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and returned home for a 3-0 sweep of Straughn on Thursday, Sept. 12.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-4 on the season with a 26-28, 25-21, 25-21, 15-25, 15-10 win over the Lady Bobcats and a 25-15, 27-25, 25-17 win against the Lady Tigers.
“This week is a busy week at our school with it being Homecoming, and along with all the activities, we also had to play two big volleyball games. I’m so proud of our girls that we were able to focus on what we needed to focus on and get these two wins,” Head Coach Sarah Kelley said.
Taya Newton paced Andalusia with 15 kills at Opp. Jaidyn Berry followed with 11 kills and added 10 blocks. Olivia Cravey had 36 assists, and Mallory McGlamory earned 13 digs.
Newton and Berry were the leaders with nine and six kills, respectively, in the Lady Bulldogs’ home win over Straughn. McGlamory tallied eight digs, and Berry notched seven blocks.
Andalusia will host Kinston in its next match on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m.
