Andalusia (1-2, 1-0 5A Region 2) will go for a second straight win and celebrate homecoming with a region matchup against Greenville (2-1, 0-1) on Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.

This will be the 68th matchup between the two teams dating back to 1923. The Tigers lead the all-time series 38-27-2 over the Bulldogs.

“This is your typical Greenville team in that they are big up front offensively and defensively. They are very skilled, and their coach (Garrick Pimienta) is doing a good job of establishing a program. It will be a tough task for us and will certainly be a big challenge on homecoming,” Head Coach Trent Taylor said. “Andalusia does a great job with the festivities, but we do not need to get overwhelmed by that and underwhelmed with the most important thing, which is winning the football game.”

Last week, Andalusia picked up its first win of the season and started region play with a 24-6 win at Headland. Greenville came up short in its region opener to Charles Henderson, 18-14.

Taylor said he feels his team is playing at a high level defensively, is improving offensively, and showing solid signs on special teams.

“I was proud of our defense after last week’s game. With what Headland did on offense, our defensive staff had to make quite a few adjustments. After our first two games, the defense did a really good job of taking it on. The biggest thing for us on offense is that we eliminated several mistakes and did not make as many as we had the first two weeks. It was huge to do that, especially on a wet field with the weather conditions. When you eliminate those mistakes, you give yourself a chance to win. We missed a field goal but hit one later that put us up by two scores, which was huge,” he said.

Taylor added that there are several positives with many opportunities to continue growing on the season.

“You certainly learn a lot about yourself in defeat, but it’s easier from a mental standpoint when you come off a win. Being in a seven-team region, you want to get those region wins as often as you can. This is just the second of six region opponents for us. We need to make sure we are doing the things we are supposed to do in order to improve as a football team.”

The Tigers squeaked by the Bulldogs, 28-20, in the previous meeting in 2021.

The crowning of this year’s homecoming queen and court presentation will be at 6:30 p.m.
